On 15 September, the Head of the Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (CNVVF), Ing. Gioacchino Giomi, and the Director-General of the ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property), Prof. Stefano De Caro, signed the framework Agreement between ICCROM and CNVVF at the Istituto Superiore Antincendi (ISA) in Rome.

The Agreement is aimed to enable, as far as the Corpo Nazionale is concerned, the cooperation and the exchange of knowledge, technical-scientific and educational detailed studies in order to prevent and safeguard the cultural heritage when a disaster occurs.

The ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage worldwide through training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy programmes. It aims to enhance the field of conservation-restoration and raise awareness to the importance and fragility of cultural heritage. The creation of the Centre took place as a result of a proposal at the UNESCO General Conference held in New Delhi, in 1956. Following an agreement with the Italian Government, three years later, the Centre was established in Rome, Italy, where its headquarters remain to this day. ICCROM responds to the needs of its Member States, which are currently at 135 and collects 7 permanent observatories.
